Negombo is a small town located North of Colombo and although useful for easy access to the International Airport it is also worth visiting. The long canal network running through the town is still in use today both for trade and tourist purposes. Visitors can see the remains of colonisation in the Dutch Fort and many centuries old Dutch and Portugeuse houses and churches. Visit the daily fish auction at Llelama  the country’s second largest fish market and meet the colourful local fishermen as they sell their catch. Venture further afield to the protect marshland area of Muthurajawela, home to over 190 species of wildlife.
