Where to stay

St Vincent and the Grenadines is a nation of 32 small islands, nine of which are inhabited, situated between St Lucia and Grenada, and forming part of the dramatic, volcanic, mountainous and lush Windward Islands. These islands, cays and lagoons have enchanted sailors for centuries with their natural beauty, pristine waters and prevailing trade winds.  In the middle of this stretch of islands on the eastern side are the Tobago Cays: a marine park of five tiny islands, lagoons and coral reefs that holds a great diversity  of marine life, including local green turtles. The whole region is famed for its outstanding sailing and diving.

The capital, Kingstown, at the southern end of the island of St Vincent is a lively, bustling small town with a population of 25,000. Known locally as the “city of arches” it is a mosaic of arches, cobbled streets, stone houses and magnificent churches blending in with the functional architecture of more recent times.

Mustique, surely the most famous of the Grenadines, is noted for its past royal and celebrity visitors, but now offers pure relaxation at some 100 private villas and a small hotel.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines boast a tropical climate that allures travellers with its pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and vibrant marine life.

The best time to travel to St. Vincent and the Grenadines largely depends on individual preferences and the type of experience one seeks. The peak tourist season typically falls between December and April, coinciding with the dry season. During these months, visitors can expect clear skies, lower humidity, and temperatures ranging from 24°C to 30°C. This period offers ideal conditions for beach lovers, water sports enthusiasts, and those looking to escape the colder months in other parts of the world.

For travellers seeking a more cost-effective experience, the shoulder seasons of May to June and November provide a fantastic alternative. While there might be occasional brief showers, the weather remains warm and enjoyable. The reduced crowds during these months offer a more intimate connection with the local culture and an opportunity to explore the islands at a leisurely pace.

The wet season in St. Vincent and the Grenadines typically spans from July to October. During this time, the region experiences higher humidity and increased rainfall. While tropical storms and hurricanes are a possibility, the islands are located just south of the main hurricane belt, which lowers the risk of direct hits. Travelers planning to visit during the wet season should monitor weather forecasts.
