Dominica, pronounced Domineeka, is a small island nation only 26 miles long by 19 miles wide roughly halfway between Antigua and St Lucia; it forms part of the dramatic volcanic, mountainous and lush Windward Islands and is often referred to as The Nature Island of the Caribbean.

A holiday to Dominica is all about the pristine tropical rain and cloud forests, the nine mountainous volcanoes, 365 rivers, three national parks, the longest walking trail in the Caribbean, a steam-covered boiling lake, enormous waterfalls crashing into gorges plus, of course, all that the ocean and beaches have to offer (including whale watching as Dominica is the only country in the world where sperm whales reside all year round).

Dominica really is a true nature lovers’ paradise and, with no cruise ship terminal or an airport runway long enough to accommodate a commercial airliner, it remains very far off the beaten track; this really is the Caribbean’s best kept secret.

Dominica, often referred to as the “Nature Isle of the Caribbean,” is a tropical paradise known for its lush rainforests, majestic waterfalls, and diverse flora and fauna. The island’s weather is influenced by its rugged topography and proximity to the equator, offering a unique climate that attracts nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.

The best time to travel to Dominica depends on one’s preferences and interests. The dry season, which typically spans from December to April, is considered the peak tourist season and is an ideal time to visit. During these months, visitors can expect sunny days, lower humidity, and average temperatures ranging from 23°C to 31°C. This period provides excellent conditions for exploring Dominica’s natural wonders, hiking its many trails, and engaging in water-based activities like snorkelling and diving.

For those seeking a more tranquil experience with fewer crowds, the shoulder seasons of May to June and November offer a great alternative. While there might be occasional brief showers, the weather remains pleasant and the landscapes lush and vibrant. Travelers during these months can take advantage of lower accommodation rates and enjoy the island’s attractions at a more relaxed pace.

The wet season in Dominica typically falls between July and October. During this time, the island experiences higher humidity and more frequent rainfall, often in the form of heavy tropical showers. Additionally, Dominica is situated within the hurricane belt, and there is a higher risk of tropical storms and hurricanes during this season.
