Zungulila Bushcamp - Accommodation
Zungulila Bushcamp is a stunning unspoilt oasis, positioned on a raised bank above a tranquil bend of the Kapamba River, a small tributary off the main Luangwa River. This is the most remote and intimate of all the camps in the South Luangwa Valley; it embodies the essence of old Africa and a bygone era, with breathtaking views over expansive floodplains where natural springs attract huge herds of game all year-round. At Zungulila Bushcamp it is impossible not to relax and slip into its peacefulness.
Experience
The South Luangwa Valley is home of the ‘walking safari’ and this is the focus of activities at Zungulila Bushcamp, although with improved road networks, day and night game drives are becoming more available to explore the impressive range of habitats in this pristine area. Expert trackers and guides lead guests on exhilarating forays on foot into some of the park’s most untouched wilderness, where large herds of buffalo roam the grassy plains and elephants bathe and drink along the river. This area is phenomenal for walking safaris with its spectacular natural beauty, open terrain and abundance of wildlife; and guests can walk between Zungulila Bushcamp and its sister camps to create a whole walking safari itinerary. After an exciting day out in the bush, guests gather around the crackling fire back at camp for sundowners before taking a seat at the splendid supper table set on a deck that seems to float over the plains.
Accommodation
Zungulila Bushcamp can accommodate eight guests in four spacious en-suite tents built under thatch roofs, each with its own private bamboo veranda and sunken plunge pool with spectacular views over a remarkable variety of wildlife; from thirsty elephants at the springs and flocks of birds on the river, to prowling lions and large herds of buffalo on the grassy plains. All beautifully designed tents have four poster beds draped with mosquito nets; two have twin (queen-sized) beds, whilst the other two have a king-sized bed. Zungulila Bushcamp’s utterly charming, thatched main area is set slightly higher than the rest of the camp, open to the front with wonderful views. Furnished in an eclectic boho-chic style it consists of a central dining area, lounge and bar, plus a sunken deck and boma area with firepit, offering open views over the Kapamba River and Muchinga Escarpment.
