Bisate Lodge

Bisate Lodge has set a new level of luxury and service to Rwanda. Bisate is Wilderness Safaris’ first foray into Rwanda and is an incredible addition to their world-leading stable of outstanding safari properties. The only downside is that it is almost impossible to get space there unless you are prepared to book very far in advance! The lodge is situated within an amphitheatre of an eroded volcano cone with dramatic views of the surrounding volcanoes and a direct view from the main area and rooms onto the slopes of Mount Bisoke. If you climb above the lodge to the hilltop plateau you will be afforded an astonishing 360-degree view of the entire Muzanze district and eastwards towards Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura volcanoes.

Experiences

Bisate’s vision of reforestation and rehabilitation means that each guest contributes to biodiversity conservation and local community upliftment – making a far-reaching positive impact on an iconic endangered species: the mountain gorilla. Situated in the heart of the Albertine Rift, Rwanda is one of Africa’s most biodiverse regions, a haven of rainforest endemism with its most celebrated wild mammal being the iconic mountain gorilla of the Virunga’s Massif. A densely-populated country with a predominantly rural population, Rwanda is known for the trauma of the 1994 genocide, as well as for its courageous recovery to become a stable, well-run and united country. The Albertine Rift is one of the richest locations in Africa for both mammal and bird diversity. It is also one of three locations in Africa most important for primate diversity and conservation. Aside from more than a thousand plant species, 670 bird species and myriad reptiles and amphibians, Rwanda boasts some 151 mammal species, amongst which are 15 primates – including one of our closest genetic relatives and the famous subjects of Dian Fossey’s seminal research – the mountain gorillas. Visits to Bisate are as much about people as they are about nature. Friendly and vibrant, the customs and the culture of the people and communities can be experienced throughout your visit. Bisate aims to enrich the gorilla viewing experience for its guests by providing depth and knowledge through evening presentations and informal chats with an on-site gorilla expert, researcher or scientist who will share his or her knowledge with guests about these charismatic creatures.

Accommodation

 

Bisate has only six 91 square metre en-suite Forest Villa’s consisting of a generous combination of bedroom, reception space and bathroom, all warmed by a central fireplace and with breath taking views out across your private deck towards Mount Bisoke. There is an indoor shower, bath and double basin vanity, heated towel railing, separate toilet, fireplace, easy chairs, luggage rack, tea and coffee making facilities and mini-bar. The main area of the lodge consists of a lounge, dining area with central fire place and bar area with viewing deck. There is also a wine cellar and curio corner.
