Serra Cafema Camp
Serra Cafema Camp is one of the most remote locations in all of Africa and offers one of the most incredible safari experiences. Serra Cafema Camp, based in the 80 kilometre Hartmann Valley, is perched on the banks of the remarkable Kunene River, the only permanent source of water in the region. It shares this region with the wonderful and colourful Himba people, some of the last true nomadic people of Africa.
experience
Activities here are many and varied, including traversing sand dunes, boating on the river, walking in remote valleys, enjoying breathtaking landscapes, as well as carefully guided quad-bike excursions that tread lightly on the dunes. Nearby native Namibian Himba families often pass through camp, providing guests with the opportunity to learn about their lifestyle and traditions. Game viewing in this area is limited to herds of Gemsbok, Springbok and Hartmann's Mountain Zebra and the Kunene River’s large population of Crocodiles.
accommodation
Serra Cafema consists of 8 riverside Meru-style canvas and thatched villas on spacious, elevated decks blended smoothly into the picturesque surroundings. Each fully furnished tent has an ensuite bathroom, ceiling fan and mosquito nets. The camp also has indoor and outdoor dining areas, a sunken lounge, library, curio shop and swimming pool. Guests fall asleep to the sound of the river rapid just below the camp; in contrast, during the day they explore one of the driest deserts in the world.
