The Majlis Resort
The Majlis Resort Hotel is a beautifully built and stunningly located boutique hotel set on a long stretch of Manda Island beach opposite Shela. It is quite possibly the only genuine luxury boutique hotel on Kenya’s coast.
Experience
The Majlis has an unusually intimate feel to it considering there are 25 rooms. It feels more intimate than you would expect; most likely due to the fact that these 25 rooms are divided into 3 large villas spread over such a long expanse of beach; add to that the two pools at opposite ends of the resort with the bar, dining, spa and water sport centre in between and you have a really well designed and well built boutique hotel. You can do as little or as much as you like; wakeboarding, water skiing, snorkelling, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, deep sea fishing, dhow cruises, kite-surfing and visits to the World Heritage Site of Lamu Town are all on offer. For sundowners we would strongly recommend their Terrace Bar on the first floor above the restaurant; it has an incredible vantage point where the sun sets over the end of a sandy peninsular across the bay.
Accommodation
There are 6 different luxuriously appointed room types including an excellent family suite comprising 2 interconnecting ensuite rooms. All rooms have ensuite facilities, air conditioning and ceiling fans. The main dining area, the Terrace Bar above and the Pool Bar are all open in design catching the perennial sea breezes. There is also a massage banda just set back from the beach where you can enjoy a range of massages and facial treatments.
