Kalahari Plains Camp
Kalahari Plains Camp offers some of the best game viewing possible in Botswana over the summer months between November and April. Situated in a remote area overlooking an enormous pan to the south east of the well known Deception Valley it is one of only 2 camps within the 12 million acre Central Kalahari Game Reserve.
Experience
Good game populations move between the dunes and the valleys throughout much of the year but the advent of the summer rains brings life to the vast pans in the area the camp is situated and the fresh grasses attract large numbers of Gemsbok, Springbok and Wildebeest; these good concentrations of plains game support good number of predators. This is one of the best places in Africa for Cheetah viewing in addition to good sightings of the almost mythical black-maned Kalahari lion. Black-backed jackal and bat-eared fox also occur, with wild dog and leopard seen on occasion.
Accommodation
There are 10 fairly simple en-suite canvas units with a sleep-out above each from which to enjoy moonlit or star-studded nights. The main area consists of a lounge and dining area with an inviting swimming pool and deck area. The tents and main area are all raised off the ground to catch the breeze and take in the sweeping, spacious views across the Kalahari. Solar power provides all the electricity and hot water in the camp - making Kalahari Plains a 100% solar-powered camp - and innovative insulated canvas walls and roof keep the temperatures inside the units comfortable.
