Africa

Summary
Journey Guide

Africa is the second largest Continent on Earth, three times the size of the United States of America. Africa is the cradle of mankind, being the oldest inhabited territory on our Planet. Even the name, Africa, conjures up images of the World’s greatest wilderness areas; from the seemingly never-ending plains of the Serengeti, the central African rainforests of the Congo Basin, the red sand dunes of the Kalahari Desert, the snow-capped peaks of Kilimanjaro, the Great Rift Valley, the miracle floodplains of the Okavango Delta, the vibrant and bustling east African coastal trading posts, the great Rivers and Lakes and lush Tropical Islands off her shores. This is a wild and untamed continent with an enormous diversity of awe-inspiring wildlife and cultures of a bygone era; full of natural wonders. There are 120 World Heritage sites representing the astonishing heritage of Africa. This is the continent that dreams are made of. A journey to Africa can change your life; it is the ultimate adventure; exciting, educational and inspiring. Mirus Journeys has an in-depth understanding of this complex continent and we have an honest and genuine commitment to putting together exactly the right trip for each person and for what is important to them. We will plan everything to the last meticulous detail and see that your journey of a lifetime is executed to perfection.

A journey to Africa is so much more than a holiday: it is a life-changing experience that we guarantee you will remember forever.

Africa is a huge continent – three times the size of the USA – containing a vast array of different habitats, from the plains of the Serengeti to the rainforests of the Congo basin, the cradle of humanity in the Great Rift Valley, and the miraculous floodplains of the Okavango Delta. It contains enormous deserts; great rivers, lakes and waterfalls; lush tropical offshore islands and 1000’s of miles of coastline littered with ancient trading posts; bustling cities; rolling vineyards; and even the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro.

No single journey can hope to embrace all of this, but we can personalise your experience to reflect your own priorities – whether it is a safari, time at the beach, a city break, a trip to the garden Route or the winelands or a combination of any number of these.

We can arrange for you to view wildlife from a vehicle, on foot, by boat, canoe, or from a light aircraft, helicopter or hot air balloon.

ON SAFARI

Your days on safari will typically begin early, when animals are still active, and involve game drives in the early morning and early evening, and perhaps also at night. During the heat of the day wildlife will slumber and you can relax and enjoy the amenities of your camp or lodge.

You will enjoy superlative catering from memorable “bush breakfasts” at the end of your morning game drive to cocktails and dinners concluding perhaps with an exchange of safari tales around the campfire.

By visiting more than one camp during a safari, you can maximise the types of creatures you will see. You might want to visit up to three different camps, each offering distinct wildlife experiences, then conclude your holiday of a lifetime at a relaxing tropical beach resort.

We will plan every aspect of your safari in meticulous detail and ensure that it is executed to perfection.

HOW MUCH WILL A SAFARI COST?

This will vary according to the level of luxury from the authentic experience of a comfortable classic tented camp to the wide range of ultra-luxurious modern camps with some offering swimming pools, health spas and gyms. Below is a simple guide which we hope will help.

Classic Camp – These camps offer authentic tented accommodation, with ensuite facilities and the focus is adventure, rather than the luxury that’s on offer at other properties. A Classic camp would cost from around £550 per person per night and this would include all the accommodation, park fees, meals, and safari activities.

Luxury Camp – A Luxury camp or lodge offers larger, more comfortable and sophisticated accommodation where standards of food, guiding and hosting are set very high. A luxury camp or lodge would cost from £1000 per person per night and this would include all the accommodation, park fees, meals, and safari activities.

Ultra-Luxury Camp– An Ultra-Luxury camp or lodge offers some of the largest, most luxurious and sophisticated accommodation available and often come with private plunge pools. The standard of food, guiding and hosting are excellent and the best on offer. The cost to stay at these camps or lodges costs from £1500 per person per night and sometimes very much higher!
